The Hill City Ranger boys cross country team won the Region 5A cross country meet last Friday at Red Cloud. The win marks
the first boys regional championship in school history.
The Rangers cruised to the title, beating second place Todd County by a score of 28-49. The win placed the Ranger boys
as a serious contender heading into Saturday's State Cross Country Meet in Huron. The Rangers are looking to upset the McLaughlin
Midgets and a host of other Class A teams. McLaughlin, the Class A favorite, returns all of their runners from last year's
championship team.
As for the Region 5A champion team: every one of the Ranger runners improved their times from the same course the team
ran at a month ago. Andy Coy led the Rangers with a Regional runner-up finish to Entwisle of Hot Springs. Andy ran 16:24.
Hudson Koel ran well, finishing in 5th place. Clint Lewis was 10th and John Bintliff came through when it counted, finishing
in 11th place. Andy Quenzer was 22nd in the boy's race. JV runner Tyler Dewsbury improved dramatically from his first race
at Red Cloud, finishing 2nd in the JV race.
The Rangers will toe the line for their final race of the year on Saturday in Huron. Events begin at noon EST.
