On
Tuesday, the Rangers tested their skills at the Black Hills Track Classic in Sturgis. In the 1600 meters, Stephanie Qualm
placed 2nd (5:38.94) in the midst of a talented field.
Also placing for the Hill City girls Jessica McDonald ran her best 200 meter dash of the year, finishing 7th in 27.3. The girl’s 4x400 meter relay team placed 2nd in the A division, running 4:24.84. Members of the 4x400 were Mariah Asheim, Qualm, McDonald
and Alise Kelting. The 1600 meter medley team of Asheim, Kelby Weiderhold, MsDonald and Qualm ran their best time of the
year (4:34.1) to also earn runner-up honors. For the boys, the 4x800 meter relay started the meet out on the track
by winning the race by 90 seconds, finishing in 8:24.20, qualifying for the state track meet in the process. Members of the
qualifying team were Hudson Koel, Clint Lewis, Adrian Salinas and Andy Coy. Koel came back later in the day to win the 800
meters again this year (2:01.03) and finish 5th in the 1600 meters
(4:46.77). Coy was an entrant in the Special 400 meters and ran his season best, 51.15 to finish 5th in the race. Lewis finished 8th in the 3200 meter run, posting a big personal best of 10:37.6. In the 110 hurdles, Jacob Allen ran another great
race, posting a 15.36 to finish fourth behind three AA runners. The 4x200 relay team of Allen, Chance Clason, Cody Skiles
and Adrian Salinas ran 1:37.31 to place third. Hill City’s 1600 meter medley relay team consisting of Skiles, John Bintliff,
Andy Quenzer and Salinas was 5th in 4:13.7. The 4x400 team of Lewis, Bintliff,
Quenzer, Kyle Alexander and Cody Skiles finished 5th (3:49.15).
