The Black Hills Conference cross country meet was held under chilly conditions at the Rocky Knolls Golf Course in Custer, SD.

The Douglas Patriot cross country program took home three top honors.  The boy's won the team title by scoring 26 points compared to runner-up Hill City's 41 points.  The Douglas girls were 20 points better than second place Custer (33).  Other than Douglas, who competes in Class AA, all of these teams will square off again next Friday at the Region 5A cross country meet.  Many of the teams will look slightly different, as some teams were missing runners involved with soccer this weekend.

Bailey Eich was the conference XC champion for the girls, running 16:05, followed by teammate Makala Diggs (16:14). The Douglas combo ran a very smart race, following 10-15 meters behind Konkol who set the early tempo.  On the second of Custers LONG hills, the Douglas runners floated past Konkol, who held on for third place (16:30).  Alex Surh (4th) and Casey Cole (7th) rounded out the scoring for the Patriots.

In the boy's footrace, Andy Coy, like Eich, won the individual conference title for the second straight year.  Coy led through the mile, closely followed by Casey Coates of Douglas.  Coy gradually increased the lead over Coates through the hills and finished in 16:48.  Coates, who ran a very strong race, was 2nd in 17:22. Colton Njos of Belle Fourche was third in 17:45.
