Ranger Boys Take 2nd in the Team Race; Coy wins

In their best team performance to date, the Ranger boys cross country team finished as Black Hills Conference Runner-up last Thursday at the Rocky Knolls Golf Course in Custer.  Class AA Douglas won the boy’s division.

Andy Coy repeated as the conference champion in the 5k race, running a personal best of 16:48 on the Custer course.  Kyle Alexander (11th) and Franky Torres (13th) each improved over 2 minutes from their last race on the Custer course and were vital in the Ranger’s runner-up finish.  Alexander and Torres each received BHC medals for their Top-15 finishes. Nash Koel ran fifty seconds better than his last tour of the Custer course and finished 16th overall.  Tyler Triplett ran a huge personal record and finished just ahead of Tayden Welsch. Triplett and Welsch were 24th and 25th overall, respectively.

Jesus Meza was the JV BHC Champion, winning the race by just over 20 seconds; an outstanding effort.  Thomas Nimick had his best race of the season, running a season best and finishing 3rd in the JV 5k race.  Forrest King ran two minutes faster than last week and crossed in 5th place.

In the girl’s race, the Rangers had two athletes compete: Cassidy Hart and Mariah Asheim.  Hart ran well again, placing 17th in the Varsity race, while Asheim ran a full two minutes better than the previous week in Sturgis, running 18:30 for 19th place.

O Thursday, the Rangers will head to the twelve team Region 5A cross country meet in Lead at the Tomahawk Golf Course.  The top three teams, along with the top 20 individuals from the varsity race advance to compete at the State Cross Country meet in Huron, SD.
