CLASS 'A' ALL-TIME TOP 10

The Hill City track and field team opened the 2007 season with the Custer Developmental Meet held on Thursday March 22nd.   Ranger runners, throwers and jumpers placed in nearly every individual event and relay and put on a great early season showing.

With the athletes just a few weeks into the spring track season, this meet was a useful tool as both a quality workout and as to gauge early season fitness.  A rolling schedule moved the meet along quickly, thus limiting time between events. That being the case, the Ranger tracksters, most entered in three or four races, still competed hard and willingly each time on the track!

To lead the boy’s team, Andy Coy and Hudson Koel both won individual events.  Coy ran away with the 200 meters in 23.59 and Koel beat fellow teammates Coy and John Bintliff to the tape in the 1600 meter run with a nice early season time of 4:56.  Coy finished with a 4:58.6 in the race and Bintliff ran a great early season time of 5:07.

The Ranger boys also took the gold in the 4x400 and Medley relays.  Hudson Koel ran an outstanding come from behind leg in the Medley Relay to help his teammates to the win.  In the 4x400 meter relay, Koel again had a fine catch-up lap on his third leg and Coy, minutes after winning the 200, anchored with a very quick early season 400 meter split to seal the deal.

Dusty Swanson, a freshman, ran well in the 400 (56.35-3rd) and finished runner-up in the 800 with Andy Quenzer and Clint Lewis closing quickly behind and all placing in the top six.

Another ninth-grader, Chance Clason, ran well on several relays and placed 5th in the 200 meters (25.5).

Nash Koel (2nd), Aaron Randolph (3rd) and Thomas Nimick (4th) all placed well in the grueling 300 meter hurdle race.

John Black took 6th in the boys discus and also placed 3rd in the 3200 behind fellow Ranger Josh Robison, who also placed fifth in the triple jump.  Freshman Colton Neilson took 4th in the event.

Brian Romero was 4th in the Freshman 100 meter dash.

Leading the Ranger girls were Kati Ginsbach, Mariah Asheim and the victorious 4x200 relay team.

The girls 4x200 meter relay was an exciting race from start to finish, with the girls running a solid 2:02.78 to pocket the win.  Katie Riley led off for the Rangers, while Kelby Wiederhold and Mariah Asheim both ran very quick 200 meter splits.  Katie Ginsbach held off a fast-closing Custer runner to finish the race.

Ginsbach picked up a win the high jump with a great early season mark of 5’2”.  In the long jump, Ginsbach also placed well, finishing fourth.

Mariah Asheim won the 400 meters (69.1), and finished second in the 800 meters.

The Ranger throwing crew did well at the meet with numerous placings.

Stephanie Burlseson placed in both the shot put (28’7”-2nd) and the discus (4th) to pace the Rangers in the throws.

Kami Wooldridge made her marks in both events as well, placing sixth in the shot put and fifth in the discus.

Kelby Weiderhold tacked on a fifth place in the shot put to round out the Ranger throwers.

The Rangers will be in action this Saturday at Douglas for the Douglas Early Bird Meet.  Come check out a great bunch of athletes!
