On the girls side, Courtney Neubert took the
race out hard and ran by herself from start to finish. She won the race going away at 15:36. Ashley Odegaard from Brookings
finished second after shaking a small pack of Aberdeen Central runners within 1/2 mile of the finish. Brittany Arment of Aberdeen
outkicked Brynn Flakus (Aberdeen) for third as they ran 16:37 and 16:40, respectively. Finishing fifth was Hillary Krein of
Eureka-Bowdle in 16:53. Krein is the defending State B champion.
Rounding out the top twenty were: Sydney Waterman
(AC) (16:56), Morgan Waage (AC) (17:01), Courtney Zirbel (Summit) (17:41), Jeanna Jerde (AC) (17:44), Miranda Rossow (Herried)
(17:55), Chelsea Biegler (Rapid City Central) (18:08), Megan Johnson (RC Central) (18:08), Myrissa Clark (RC Central) (18:09),
Sadie Brandner (Herried) (18:11), Breanna Helland (Leola-Frederick) (18:12), Ashley Williams (RC Central) (18:19), Alicia
Zirbel (Summit) (18:24), Jordan Weiszhaar (AC) (18:39); Madison Whitley (RC Central) (18:40), and Sierra Reister (RC Central)
(18:41).
On the boys side Josh Wilson of Aberdeen Central and Shaun Henderson of Huron ran a two man race from the
start. They ran side by side for the first two miles of the race. At the point, Wilson surged and put about 50 meters on Henderson.
He stretched that lead over the last mile and won the race in 16:26. Henderson finished second in 16:59. Behind Wilson and
Henderson was a small pack of runners that was led by Tyler Anderson of Brookings. Anderson broke free from that group with
about a mile and a half to go and ran the rest of the race on his own to finish third in 17:07. Rounding out the top twenty
